Hi there,
Hope all is well? I currently run a 9 aside team at the moment but I understand what you're saying.
My team was 7 aside last season and I took over half way through we were getting beat every week. Which is very hard to keep going with but you have to trust the process of what you are teaching them.
I re focused my team on working together understanding of positioning, I re shuffled my squad of players to see what suited them best also. I mainly focused on them working on being compact in the game and defending so they learned to defend as a team i.e tracking back even the strikers. We then turned a corner and started winning end of 7 aside.
I have taken the same team to 9 aside with the same players and developing them with they have now finished 2nd in the shield tournament reaching there 1st ever final.
So I always say you have to spend more time with all the players maybe increase training by extra minutes to help but focusing on them all working together and out of season after may keep them training through the summer as that's where you will get the improvement
Hi,
We had this in the first youth team I was involved with. Was 10-0 most weeks for the first season. Luckily the league we were involved with put us down into a lower league and games became more competitive and we started to score some goals.
It wasn't until the 3rd season where the players began to gel and win matches.
I would stay the course with the correct age group and perhaps find a league that leans more towards the development level.
Maybe also invite coaches from other teams that are winning and be open to their feedback. Sometimes they are just fortunate and have naturally gifted players, however, some times they may have some useful ideas on how to improve your team.
If it is the first couple of seasons I wouldn't worry too much, however, if you still aren't seeing any improvements after 3-4 seasons then I'd invite input and feedback to help you. As you are developing as a coach at the same time the kids are developing as players.
Hope that helps.
Cheers
Jamie
