Laws of the Game Trial Events

Hi All, as part of our continued development of Walking Football we are looking at supporting some trial events to test a few of the Laws of the Game changes and we would be looking for 3-4 different events across the country.
Does anyone know of any FA Affiliated events that are taking place in September? At each event we would need a series of fixtures to collect data around the existing laws against any new proposals in order to make better, more evidence-based decisions on any future law changes. Each event would need referees and observers for each of the fixtures to record the data, and we will also likely to conduct some focus group interviews post-event with players, referees, and facilitators.
At this stage, I just need some information on when and where any competitions or festivals are taking place, and we will then work with our project team on the details of how this will be completed.
Please comment below or email Flo.Lunn@TheFA.com
Many thanks.

  • Here’s some stats that may interest some from an over 50s tournament i refereed at yesterday. I was one of 4 referees in action and I have match cards from 11 games I refereed. Each game was 12 minutes in duration. According to my records during the 11 games I penalised players for not walking 56 times which averages out at 5 per game. The most in any one game was 9 and the least was 2. No players received a blue card for 3 non walking offences in any one game. 14 players however were substituted after receiving two warnings for not walking. There were lots of excellent teams playing yesterday and 98% of players competed well in a sporting manner, not agreeing with all decisions given but accepting of them. The other 2% did not and challenged decisions throughout and created an atmosphere in some games that was unnecessary. I know trials are being used for team offences and yesterday if 4 team (non walking) offences resulted in the award of a penalty then 6 would have been awarded according to the records I kept. The duration of the sin bin used yesterday was only 2 minutes and although they were only short games , in my opinion that was far too short a sanction and easily managed by the offending teams and therefore not really a suitable sanction at all. Four minutes would have been far more suitable.
It was an enjoyable days refereeing overall with lots of really good people involved from the WF Community but that minority who behave in an unsuitable manner need to have a long hard look at themselves. If you are not careful you will drive referees away from the game.
