Affiliation Costs, are they appropriate?

Just gone through the process of affilaiting our teams to the FA for the 2023/24 season. I must admit to feeling a little aggrieved about the team Insurance payments. The current set up means that we seem to be paying multiple Insurance premiums for the same players? Lots of walking footballers play across different age categories and in essence a club are paying twice or three times for one player to play in 3 teams. For example a female player plays in our ladies only team across two age groups plus one of our mixed gender teams as well. Surely the FA and the Insurance providers can find a suitable way for individual players to be covered across teams.Surely a nominal fee of around £3 per player linked to their FAN number would be a way forward?

  • Well done for getting that far. All I get is system maintenance messages for the last 2 days and cannot up-date registration or start affiliation

  • This could be down to the way leagues are structured by the FA? A 'team' is defined as that which partakes in a league, so if your club has multiple teams entered in the same league then they need separate insurance for each team. However, I believe, that if your Walking Football League was to run as separate Leagues ie over 50/60 League (rather than divisions within the same 'league') then actually Team A (limited by selection of relevant age restricted players eg 50+/60+) could enter League A (50+), League B (60+), League C (70+) and so on. This is in effect the same thing that happens with entering a nearby County League. A 'new' team is created as you are supposed to affiliate to your local County FA and can only pay affiliation fees once. So maybe the solution is to allow clubs to affiliate one team (male/female/mixed) but if you play outside of your local County FA then additional charges could be introduced?!?

  • Mick, I have to agree with you.  We are a very small club that plays in the Oxfordshire League with one Over-50s and one Over-60s team. The Over-50s team is predominantly made up of players who are already registered with the Over-60s team, so as you say it feels like they are being double insured!   At £50 a team, £100 is a massive outlay for us and we are now being encouraged to form an Over-70s team which will also be made up primarily of players currently registered with our Over-60s. I am a prime example at 66 years old - I am registered with the Over-60s and Over-50s and the proposed new Over-70s league is likely to allow an Over-65s goalkeeper - why do I need to be triple insured and why does the club have to fork out £150????
