Stepping into the youth leadership space at 22 was one of the biggest steps I’ve taken in my life, one which has continued to shower me with opportunities, experiences and knowledge even after I aged out of the space. My youth leadership journey is very unique in regards to how it took me out of my comfort zone, supported me through life-changing moments and has led me to places such as being pitch side at the Emirates, taking photos for my own media agency.
My journey behind a camera actually started when I was 14. Playing football was everything to me, and one injury took that a way for a short while and I lost sense of what I would do if I couldn’t play again. Thankfully my dad had a spare camera on hand, and instead of letting me rot away, we still went to watch the county team and I took the camera with me. I actually didn’t pick up a camera again until 8 years later.
In 2022 I had the incredible opportunity to be part of the FA Leadership Academy, where I learned about myself, my own personal philosophies and the impact I wanted to have football. Having the opportunity to chat to some incredible people allowed me to take a different view on women’s football, and how the already limited amount of media coverage was actually through the female eye. My project for FALA 22 was quite different to some of my peers. I wanted to use the opportunity to put myself into spaces that I didn’t see myself represented. When you look on the sides of football pitches, it was very rare to see a female photographer/videographer, this is wanted to change and impact, but I didn’t know how I was going to on a larger scale. As I began entering this spaces, I had the opportunity to connect with a couple of like minded individuals who saw the same pattern I did. The more we spoke about the issue, Goal 110’ began to come to life.
The idea behind Goal110’ isn’t to promote women’s football, its to highlight the issues that are faced behind the scenes when it comes to female content creators, especially of a younger age. With Goal110’ I want to begin offering the opportunities to young creators who are endeavouring to break into the media sector of sport, but don’t have the network to begin their journey.
