What would be your Top Tip for hosting a SAFE Walking Football Session?

    • A club session needs at least 1 Lead Activator who ensures a safe and welcoming environment for players , has the right equipment and knows the LOTG of walking football. Our club is fortunate that we have 3 FA coaches who can organise sessiins accordingly but we also have encouraged members to take the online FA Playmaker qualification,  FA Introduction to Emergency First Aid in Football qualification and attend FA waliing footballreferee workshop's.  The result has been an appreciation of what it takes to ryn a fun and safe sesion and extended cover for session leaders . 
    • The Playmaker course, although not senior player focused, should be used as a template for a ' How to run a walking football  session ' workshop.

    It is very important to get all medical information, all contact details, a name and contact number for emergencies. 

    Make sure the venue is checked out for all obvious H&S requirements. Very important Defib location or get a mobile Defib if not at the venue. Most people who attend walking football have been involved in some way with football previously so are aware of what is required. when new players are attending the right foot wear and shin pads should be advised. 

    Depending on numbers and amount of time the group have been together will determine the standard and way the games are played and teams within the group sorted accordingly. It is important to make sure it is fun and for fitness and wellbeing regardless of how competitive even with Competitive walking Football the emphasis should still be on enjoyment and not winning at all cost.
