How much ownership should I give players?

What experience do others have of giving their players a voice during sessions?

Are there any common issues across age phases or challenges with letting your players take more of a lead at training?

  • Provided the boundaries for the session are set for the group and the players understand ( not forgetting a bit of flexibility , but not too much ! ) let them voice away ! keep on top of the session plan and don't lose sight of the outcome you are training on..

  • Hi Ollie

i agree with Paul let them express their ideas, they can come up with some crackers, whatever their age.

The common issues arising are that they can get carried away and the task you are trying to acheive gets lost.

i always ask what do they hope to get out of their suggestion why and how. then try it and after discuss if anything needs to be tweeked.

if you shut them down straight away it can be really hard to keep their interest for the rest of the session
