Why is there a reluctance from some county FAs to put on the FA Walking Football Referee Workshop?

I regularly see posts on other social media platforms about referees wanting to get into WF but county FAs in some areas appear unwilling to put the workshops on. This could mean that potential WF referees are lost to the FA because they decide to follow the WFA referee scheme. WF is growing massively month on month and recruiting/training referees should be one of the priorities of all county FAs as this is paramount in providing a safe playing environment at both club sessions and competitions.

  • Further to this point, even in counties where workshops are put on, the course is not an official course within the FA, and therefore they do not show up on the wholesome system as Walking Football Referees which is a huge flaw.

We are never going to be able to achieve a high calibre of referees without proper training and feedback of the referees from their match days. Whilst in Lincolnshire we are trying to do this, it has been a battle at times.
