New U10s Team

Hi All,

Starting a new U10's team this September, with a large number of players who have not played football in the younger age groups.  Ultimately want it to be a fun introduction into football and for all the players to enjoy the season, but understand we are likely to meet some teams who have played together for quite some time already.

Was just wondering what to focus on in our first few sessions - without over complicating it?

What experiences have other coaches have had, introducing new players or new teams into this age grade?

Thanks

Tom

  • Hi Tom, exactly the same for me last season. Just had to keep working on the basics and providing lots of encouraging feedback. The season starts of as a struggle but once everyone starts to play and pull in the same direction, results pick up. Being honest with the parents helps too. Explaining the process of your goal for the team helps to overcome any negativity about results and performances. Football needs to be fun and the rest will fall into place when given time.
