Coaching Under 8s

Hi all, I have recently started coaching my sons under 8s team and I was wondering what other teams do when it comes to training. So we have 2 teams with 4 coaches ( 2 for each team ) and it seems like we just turn up and wing it really, I would like to get a structure in place where we focus on a certain type of training for 4 weeks and then move on to another type. Also should we train all the kids together or split into the 2 teams? Any help would be great.

There are lots of ways to approach it, but having some organisation around the training session aims and objectives each week is really useful. you'd have to spend a little bit of time planning but it should pay off with better training sessions and a structured plan for improving. Remember to re-asses your plans each week and adjust accordingly. As for splitting into 2 teams if the practices you are doing require some time waiting then smaller groups is always better, it can help to cover more training per session and ensure each player gets time on the ball and more coaching time.

    Hope that helps.
