U8 5-a-side, playing out from the keeper

Hi All,

We seem to struggle as a team, like I guess many have before us, at playing the ball out from the back when with the keeper. Our keeper is learning to kick the ball and we are patient with this, allowing time to develop the skill. We've tried the defensive diamond and to get the ball wider, but the defenders do panic and either lose the ball or kick it out of play. We've tried balls down the wings, but due to the panic, the either over or under pass.

Any tips on sessions we could try to improve this?

Thanks

  • Be patient with them , create confident and skillfully thinking individuals , if your players don't practice this it then becomes harder to link players together , repetition and time with the ball and creating realistic 1v1 1v2 ect small sided games will certainly help .

Give them freedom to make errors in match days , think individual abilities and not about the whole

  • Ae had the same problem that passing out wide meant they ran back across goal if faced Wright incoming pressure. Simply we put two players left and two players right but not really wide. This way they have cover and also meant that opposition players were more central and attracted to our more central centre backs. Left more space to run in to channels
