U12 Girls: two goalkeepers in team?

I'm lucky enough to have one dedicated and keen goalkeeper in my team, but I've just been approached by another girl who is keen to also play GK. I don't want our current GK to feel displaced or pushed out - she really likes being an essential part of the team. However, if she were ill, injured or unavailable we would struggle to replace her so it seems sensible to have a second GK in the squad and maybe rotate the position between them. The problem is that our current GK doesn't really like playing outfield. 

How do other teams manage multiple GKs? Any advice?

  • Hi Ben - think this one is about trying to find balance to support both players and also the team - is your 'new' GK happy to play outfield? If so you could look at how it could work with her playing outfield more than the other GK but giving her some playing time in goal so she is ready if your current one is injured of unavailable. The other option to explore would be helping your current GK see the benefits of playing outfield and how this could benefit her Goalkeeping.
