my club wants us to play u12s in a tournament. but my team is no where near the standard. i think this will be demoralising to get beat 10 nil every time, is this allowed

we are a newly formed team and some of the players are not at a good standard. my club has entered us in a summer league were we compete against the next year up, we are u11s, rest of the against u12s. we have played two games and been beat 10 and 16 nil. we have better opersition to face, I feel were setting them up to be demoralised every week when we could be training for the first season at 9v9. i wonder what other peoples thoughts on this are and is it within the scope to play u11 vs u12

  • Hi Robert, agonise over this one every year.  Tournaments are very different as usual 5 or 6 a side. In my experience we have sat don with the kids and discussed that they will usually come up against stronger opposition from other leagues BUT that it is terrific experience, totally different type of football, more akin to high intensity training game. Each year the kids then pleasantly surprise me. We big up the day out, play your games then there is ice creak and burgers. Many tournament seed and or use powerplay. Worth contacting the organiser and checking how they are dealing with ability range. Hope this helps. Paul
