Challenging behaviour - U8s

How can you address a situation where a child displays aggressive behaviour towards players and coaches during football training? The child loves football, but really struggles with their emotions. How can you support this child while also considering the needs of the other children? At what point do the needs of the group take precedence over the individual, and how can we ensure the individual child finds a path that works for them without simply dismissing them because they present a challenge?

Parents
  • HI Andrew - i would try my best to mirror how parents/guardians and school work with the child - what are their options, discussions, consequences for challenging behaviour and can we adapt this and use in their football environment? Hopefully parents/guardians are actively involved and present at training. More positive role models reinforcing messages would be a good thing. As you say we would not want this to detrimentally impact the larger group but could also be learning opportunity for them
