U8 kick in rules and scoring.

I wanted to understand the exact rule, as it states you can not score directly from a kick in. However we have had a kick in where the ball is dribbled in by the player for one touch and then shot and scored. The referee allowed this goal, of which in a previous game one of our player did a similar thing and the goal was disallowed and the kick in was asked to be taken again. Is there any clarification on this?

  • HI Mark

The answer needs to be addressed, it is a Pass-In not a Kick-In. We have the same problem In my League where coaches are treating as a Free Kick. If you think of as a Pass, it should go to a colleague who can then score

  • If the player chooses to fire in a pass direct from the sideline and it then touches ANY other player from either side on its way into the goal, then it's a goal.  Any second touch before entering the goal makes it valid.  Coach goalkeepers to allow a ball fired in direct from the sideline to enter their goal - don't even try to save it.  You will then receive a goal kick as the restart.

I don't like that players can blast the ball direct at goal in this way in the hope of a second touch occurring, but any second touch turning this into a tactic to exploit makes this an option for an attacking side.  This isn't, I'm sure, why the FA introduced kick-ins, but that's the Laws as they stand.
