Am I too old to start out as a football coach?

I would like to change career and retrain as a football coach. I am in my 50s and not as fit as I once was.

I have zero experience of football coaching but I am a qualified teacher and well used to working with kids in other settings.

Never really been that good at playing football myself but a huge fan of the game and I've seen firsthand how football can bring diverse communities together.

Any 'older' coaches out there that started in later life?

Thank you.

  • Sam, I'm 66 and qualified as a ref last week,  started walking football a few years back and found myself on the strikers side of the half way line for the first time at 65. If you can organise, bring some fun to the game and put the kids first, you will be ten times more valuable to these kids than a win at all costs shouty 'been there, done it seen it' adult.
