Due to the size of the squad, during training we often break into two groups when going through the drills. My question is whether it's more effective to group players with similar abilities together or have more of a mix. I know that answer is likely to be "do both" and "it depends", so looking for opinions, particularly what helps the players that need the most development.
Take for example in a 3v3 setup, would you group six players of similar ability or have one on each team that is not as strong. The pro's of each as i see it:
Similar ability pros
- Gives each player more time on the ball
- Allows the time and space for them to develop
Mixed ability pros
- Puts the less strong players in a more realistic higher pressure environment
- Force the more able players to work with the team they actually have.
This is for a U10 age group.
