I’m coaching under 9s mixed , mixed ability team this season for the first time. The kids are great and really engaged, bar one. This player shows no interest in football, despite playing with the team for the last two seasons. The player celebrates when training or games are cancelled and actively avoids the ball during games. The parents feel she’s getting something out of it, but it’s have a negative impact on training and games. I want to pull her from the team as it’s disruptive and impacting the development of others as so much time is spent trying to engage and develop. I can honestly say there has been no development in the last two years. Everyone else is keen as mustard so this player is sticking out like a sore thumb. I feel I have a responsibility to the player and the team. Speaking to the parents about it, they want her to continue and seem blind to the levels of engagement we’re seeing. Any advice from more seasoned coaches?
