Setting up a team while waiting to take Introduction to Coaching Football

Hello All. I'm looking for some advice.

I have completed my EE playmaker, Safeguarding and First Aid courses. I am waiting to start the Introduction to Coaching Football course which is unfortunately still a month off. I have sent a ticket to the FA requesting to start earlier, though reading through feedback on here, I'm not hopeful.

Can anybody tell me, with everything I currently have in place, also with the knowledge that the course is booked, would I be able to set my team up and get started? I'm keen to get this moving quickly in the hope of getting the boys' in the league in the new year, however with a projected completion of the beginning of December, this isn't going to be possible I don't think.

is there any sort of dispensation I can get?

  • Hi Kris,

I am a club welfare officer at a 3 star England accredited club. We start 3/4 new teams each year. On completion of our Safer Recruitment process for new coaches we require the following steps :

Step 1 is completiion of the DBS process.

Step 2 completion of EE player maker , safeguarding children and first aid

Step 3 Completion of ITFC within 4 months of joining the club.

We are aware that you can’t always get the ITFC completed prior due to availability of courses or your own time demands etc.

So you are doing everything right and should be good to go (provided you have DBS). Speak with your club welfare officer for further guidance. If you are not within a club framework you can speak to your county FA safeguarding Officer.

    Hope this helps.

  • Hi Alistair.

Many thanks for your input on this. That looks much more positive now than it did late last night. I'm meeting with my (potentially) new club tomorrow night, so I'll be sure to speak with the CWO when I'm there.

    Thanks again.

    Kris
