does anyone have any advice?
I have an U9’s goalkeeper who struggles to control his emotions when we concede a goal. He will throw a tantrum kicking the ball as far away as possible, kicking goal post, water bottles, throwing gloves. It’s been a recurring problem for the season and seems to be getter worse rather than better.
I have spoken to the parents and there’s possibly more to it as he is being assessed for autism spectrum disorder. They haven’t offered any suggestions on how best to deal with him.
I’m at a loss with how to handle the situation, having already tried ignoring it, time outs, bringing him off, discussing it before each game to pre empt it and play down the importance of U9’s grassroots football.
He’s exactly the same in training if we are playing a match at the end of the training session.
As you can imagine it impacts the rest of the team and brings their heads down on match days, sometimes with 3/4 of the match still to play.
Thanks in advance
