Tips for match day for U7s

I need some tips on match day tactics for my U7s please.

I've been approaching it by giving each player a different role in the match, i.e. Q1 defence, Q2 striker, Q3 sub, Q4 midfield. But I know of other U7s who have one or two dedicated goalkeepers and have set defenders, midfielders and strikers they call upon and keep them in the same roles during the match.

Also I've been putting my weaker team on first and then coming in with the stronger players in the last two quarters.  I'm aware that this is all about fun and enjoyment, but the fact we're in leagues suggests there is an element of competitiveness, so I want to make sure that I'm doing my best to set them up for development and success.  Any tips please on the right approach?

  • Hi Linda, check out the articles link at the top of this page for some great tips on U7s. Lots of great information there that can help. Is there any particular in match tactics you'd like support on? I think enjoyment like you say is key at this stage. So making sure players are having fun, being given an opportunity to play in different positions and all having a role in the team is key for me.
