Hi, does anyone have any tips on how to coach positional play for U9s.

My U9s team are finding it difficult to say in shape and position during matches and are constantly running all over the pitch. Tried most of the obvious sessions but they just don’t seem to pick it up. Any advice or tips would be great, thanks

  • My players seem to have naturally snapped out of the habits from 5v5. I have found keeping each player to two positions has helped. Moving them all around the pitch to experience different positions in one match confuses them.

Little sayings like 'Paint on your boots' to keep the wingers wide has also worked.
