Hi, does anyone have any tips on how to coach positional play for U9s.

My U9s team are finding it difficult to say in shape and position during matches and are constantly running all over the pitch. Tried most of the obvious sessions but they just don’t seem to pick it up. Any advice or tips would be great, thanks

  • Hi Kim,

at this  age it’s normal for players to get drawn towards the ball so I wouldn’t worry to much if they sometimes stray. I would recommend looking up Tovo sessions on YouTube. It has a mixture of rondos and positional games which can be used to gradually introduce players creating and maintaining space
