New manager smoking at matches

Hi - I coach an U11 teams which has had a new manager. He has not, to my knowledge, undertaken any of the FA's courses such as EE Playmaker etc.

Both other parents & myself are concerned at the manager turning up at match days and smoking in front of the team (not on the sideline during matches) before the game and in some cases neglecting the warm up session while he smokes with his wife a few yards away from the pitch or on the car-park where the kids are arriving with their parents.

Can anyone help me understand what the FA policy or guidance is on this please ?

Thanks

  • I am a manager / coach of a couple of teams and i would say if you have concerns then you all need to get together to discuss this. Smoking around children is not good and also will upset the parents if this keeps happening. I know generally each person who coaches a team should have done the First Aid Course and the Sae Guarding Courses as well / DBS Checks. I know some clubs don't make it mandatory to get there coaching badge's but you should at least do the Online introduction to football which does not cost anything to do. Also, if you have further concerns speak with your welfare officer and trustees of the club. After all it is the safety of the children playing football. here is a link to safeguarding
