U8s Substitutions

Hi,

had my teams first match tonight and i had 8 players for 5 a side (will usually be 9 players)

i was rotating players every few minutes to make sure everyone got game time but im wary of not letting players settle into the game.

whats everyones opinion on how often you shoulf make subs at such a young age? i suppose its a hard balance of development/ getting everyone game time.

  • Good question and some good ideas below.

Also think about the terminology you use for the young boys an girls. For example they might not like to be a substitute but if they were called 'game changers' that might be more appealing or even called 'finishers' the players who play the last part.

As mentioned rotation is really important at this age but they do often need some time to 'settle' into the game and findignthe balance can take a bit of time.

    Good luck
