U8s Substitutions

Hi,

had my teams first match tonight and i had 8 players for 5 a side (will usually be 9 players)

i was rotating players every few minutes to make sure everyone got game time but im wary of not letting players settle into the game.

whats everyones opinion on how often you shoulf make subs at such a young age? i suppose its a hard balance of development/ getting everyone game time.

  • Hi Alex i would agree with you rotating your players. Nobody gets good at playing football by not playing. you could also think about what you do with the players who are off the pitch. If you have a coaching partner you could get them to organise a fun football related session, at the side of the pitch if you have space. Maybe you can look at setting them challenges related to the game and their development .
