The u7s team that are out to win every game come hell or high water

Having had that experience yesterday my thoughts are the FA county need to supervise random games to ensure the ethos is upheld..... coach screaming and shouting at his side... constantly walk up the pitch and not staying in the tech area... Did either side take anything away from that match? Definitely not. I did though... firm in the Belief that how I coach is correct I’ll never be that coach I witnessed.

  • I don't coach from the sidelines with my U7 and got criticised by a parent for not coaching!

The same parents that shout instructions when I have asked that they encourage only. It is a constant battle!

  • hi Jeff and Trevor

unfortunately there are still dinosaurs out there , but with the key messages that most coaches are trying to apply ,allowing young players to make their own decisions and bearing in mind there maybe a thought process that involves 3-4 options at the time of the choice , and for a coach or parent to shout what to do do just takes this away , children have voices and should be aloud to choose what when where and how in there game of fun and learning , they are owners of this crucial time and should be aloud to experiment with out judgments, its challenging for coaches but continue this driving force ,situations will get better because of valued coaches like yourself .

  • I think if you asked most parents what they think a coach should be doing on the touchline, it is shouting and hollering at their players. Yet of course that's the opposite of what we get told to do by the FA, with a view to the players making decisions for themselves on the pitch. I wonder if a campaign to educate parents about modern youth coaching methodologies would be beneficial.

  • Less is More in our game day environments. It really feels like it's improving as I'm not coming across it as much as 5 years ago and pre lockdown the environments were a higher percentage of positive and ownership based experiences for all the kids and young referee's, which is a huge positive but then kids football should be nothing else.
