Sharon Muxworthy, The FA’s Coach developer, talks with coach Saskia Granville who has completed her BT playmaker course and is now on a journey to complete her Introduction to Coaching Football course. Saskia has cerebral palsy and explains how coaching helps her.
SHARON
So hi do you wanna introduce yourself then and say your name and which team you coach?
SAS
I'm Sas Granville and I coach, 6 to 12 year old boys and girls at Worthing Town FC. Excellent, Excellent.
SHARON
So tell me Sas a bit about how did you get into coaching
SAS
Um, basically I did the FA playmaker, thanks to Justin Thompson and Sharon.
SHARON
Muxworthy. Yeah, that's right, yeah, yeah. And how did you find that course?
SAS
I thought I did quite well, some of it was quite hard at times. I had help from Sharon Muxworthy.
SHARON
Yeah. Great, great job. And what would you say now that did it give you a little bit more confidence to go
SAS
out and have a go at coaching once you had that qualification Yeah
SHARON
And what sort of things did it give you ideas about?
SAS
Um, interacting with the kids more and like making sure they have a safe environment
SHARON
And would you say for you that's the most important thing as a coach, is making sure what what is it, what is the most important thing for you as a coach when you're with your children?
SAS
The most important thing to be a coach is to see my team happy and do what they love doing,
SHARON
Brilliant, brilliant, I love that. And what do you think now you've been coaching now? Nearly a year haven't you? So what what what value has it brought to you
SAS
um like kids to be able to um talk to me more and if they've got problems or need help, I can help them
SHARON
and what do you think? How is coaching helped you personally?
SAS
Coaching has helped me come out more and not be that shy.
SHARON
Okay, so it's giving you a lot more confidence?
SAS
Yeah
SHARON
Brilliant, Thank you. That's great, thank you very much.
Since this conversation Saskia has now completed her Introduction to Coaching Football and is looking forward to developing her coaching skills further with the support of everyone at her club, County FA and women and girls mentoring team.
