Walking football Season

Hi everyone, a couple of questions here about FA WF Leagues.

1. When does your season run? What months do you cover within a particular season and why? (my reason for asking is that our county league is currently aligned with regular football so covers the colder months and I am exploring options to suggest a shift in the schedule . (S im not cold, wet and miserable whilst refereeing!)

2. If your season incorporates the month of June what do you do about Insurance cover during the month of June?

And now a question for the FA

1. The insurance cover we take out,  is the end of cover each year the end of June? So any issues about having no cover are sorted if clubs get their affiliation process sorted prior to the end of June? Obvioulsy this Insurance issue would cover club sessions as well.

  • Interesting questions.

Here in Oxfordshire we have actually just switched from an April-Oct season and instead align with the regular football season, primarily because of the carry over between two regular football seasons in June and all the hassle that brings with it - Re-registrations, affiliations and the Full-Time system doesn't really work when it runs over two regular seasons.

We will be starting the 2026/27 season in July running the local qualifying round of the FA Walking Football Cup then run the full season from August through to May 2027, but with an admittedly fairly lengthy winter break.

  • Hi Mick,

In Cornwall it starts early June and ends approx late September.
Tournaments tend to start around now and although not many tend to be done by end of May. With perhaps one in Sept.

WRT insurance. We tend to affiliate as soon as we can and renew likewise and have it confirmed in writing we are covered in June by our county FA, as you rightly point out this is cut over point/time and can lead to confusion and uncertainty. I can't remember the exact wording or email but there is some flexibility in renewals.
